iPhone Commercial ╰(*´︶`*)╯

First Project of Junior Year

Welcome to the first blog post of my Junior year in high school! I am currently in the entertainment strand of my program and have already been working on new creations with my teammates. My group was a bit small this time around, but what we lacked in numbers we made up for in sheer determination. The other members of the team were Sophia and Josh, and they were fun to work with. Overall I had a very good time creating this commercial.

The general concept of our commercial was really just to show how you could use an iPhone in a school setting. The commercial began in a three way split screen with three students going through their morning routines. The middle of the commercial shows each individual kid going through their school day and using the product. When the video ends, all of the students have come together for a group project and use the features of iPhones to collaborate.

Our process began with brainstorming and attempting to figure out what product we should use. Eventually we settled on iPhones after tossing away some equally brilliant ideas (Minecraft, Dungeons and Dragons, etc). Once we'd picked out our roles and it was decided that I would be the art director and production designer, I got to work on the storyboards. I got way too detailed on the linear and started using a pen and everything, which definitely made me lag behind. I never really finished them completely but what I did have looked good to me! While I worked on that, Sophia- our editor- completed a script. Since we didn't have any dialogue, the script also doubled as a shot log. We gathered our actors and then our director and cinematographer Josh began filming. He was busy a lot, so I ended up filming almost all of the shots, but Josh was still a good team player and a wonderful director. Sophia did beautifully with the editing. I was sick on our last day of post-production and missed the tail end of our editing. Because of this, the music that I had selected got switched out last minute. We later got criticism that viewers wished there was a different song, and I can't help but be a little bit petty about it, but we're changing the music back during the re-editing process.

While working on this project as an art director and production designer I learned a lot about how to work well with others, as well as how to take the initiative. I love the way some of the shots that I did came out and I definitely am proud of how the actors' outfits fit well with the setting. I'm satisfied with the way that the shots turned out just like how I'd imagined them. If I could change anything about this project, I would most likely give us more time to film and edit, as it seemed to me that we got a bit rushed and stressed towards the end of our time to work.

In conclusion, I'm very proud of how this commercial turned out, and it will look even better after a bit of re-editing and touchups. I think that we did very well and I'm proud of my team for how hard they worked. I can not wait to work with them again.
